A Batch of OWH Cards

It’s been a very busy year for us and I haven’t had the time to make cards for Operation Write Home until now. As stated in a previous post, we sold our house in Florida and moved west. We spent several days in the Dallas area with our grandkids on the way to our new digs in Mesa, AZ. Since arriving here, it’s been one thing after another to take up my time. I finally decided last month that I really wanted to get a box of cards made and shipped out before the end of the year.

This first group is made up of some cards I’ve had on hand and felt could be better used by our military personnel.

101   104102   103105   106

The last one was modified with a new sentiment – the one I had on it originally just didn’t work for OWH needs.

The following cards were made specifically to fill this shipment. There is only one true Valentine, but lots of “love” sentiments.

01   0203   0405   0607   0809   1310   1112   1415   2017   1816   19 21   2722   2324   28

I decided it was important not to leave out the kids who want to get cards, too. So I created the following cards.

25   26   29   3031   32

So that’s 38 cards.  There is one more. I was reading a post at OWH which talked about a special request from a general over seas. He loves penguins and wanted lots of cards with penguins on them. The request was for only one from each card-maker, so here’s mine. I hope he’ll like it.

So that’s what I’ve been up to over the past several weeks. It’s been great fun and I intend to start working on another box after the holidays are behind us… or maybe tomorrow.

Happy crafting!

Sympathy Card

After learning of a friend’s passing today, I wanted to make a sympathy card for his wife. I started out by picking the image I wanted to use and then started looking for a sketch to get the mojo working. This sketch caught my eye – this week’s challenge from Critter Sketch Challenge.

This is my finished card, along with the inside.

Supplies used:

  • white A2 card base, cut to square
  • patterned papers from Miss Caroline “Howdy Doody” 6×6 Designer Paper Pad from My Mind’s Eye
  • black and white cardstock from my stash
  • Bearded Iris pre-colored digital stamp from Fred She Said
  • Green Flowers digital paper from Designer Digitals (no longer available)
  • silver peel-off sentiment from my stash

Thanks for stopping by. Happy crafting.

Custom Birthday Card

I had a client ask for a custom birthday card for her sister who is the proud and involved grandmother of twin boys. The challenge was finding just the right image to use. Here’s the card I finally came up with.

She wanted the inside to represent her sister’s involvement with the baby boys, so here’s how it looks.

I based the card front loosely on this week’s sketch from OWH Stars & Stamps.

I am also entering this card in the weekly challenge (C4C137) from Crazy 4 Challenges, which is to make a birthday card.

Supplies used:

  • A7 white card blank from my stash
  • green patterned digital paper from Brianna Paper Pack by Designer Digitals
  • navy Gemstones Cardstock Paper by Recollections
  • self-stick crystal gems from my stash
  • baby clip-art found on the web
  • Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Scalloped Circles Large in two sizes
  • Cuttlebug

Thanks for having a look at my work. Happy crafting!

Stars & Stamps #109

This is the sketch for the Stars & Stamps challenge for this week:

Here’s my card, based on the sketch:

Supplies used:

  • white A2 card based from my stash
  • patterned digital paper, pre-colored digital stamp & sentiment from Cocoa Cup Ants by Doodle Pantry (not yet released for sale as of this writing)
  • Celestial 3-in-1 Corner Punch from Fiskars

Black & White Thank You Card

I discovered a challenge group this week that I think I will really enjoy. It’s called CAS-ual Fridays, and is dedicated to Clean And Simple designs. This is actually my favorite kind of card to make, so I’m looking forward to doing more of their challenges in the future.

This week, the challenge is to “Create a Clean And Simple Project that is only black and white.” I love black and white anyway, so wanted to give this a shot.

Here’s my card:

I based my card on a sketch provided by “Just Us Girls” a couple of weeks ago. I’m too late to enter it there, but wanted to give credit where it was due. This is the sketch:

Supplies used:

  • A2 card blank from Recollections
  • black cardstock from my stash
  • flowered digital paper from Isla Paper Pack from Designer Digitals
  • polka dot paper from Paper Pizazz
  • Lacy Ovals die from Spellbinders
  • silk flowers from my stash
  • computer generated sentiment
  • black brads from my stash

Thanks for stopping by.
